Today, one arrival is especially close to our own lantern.

Novelist. Thinker. Creator of Frankenstein.

And one of the original members of our Lantern Literary Fellowship.

Mary Shelley was born on August 30, 1797.

At an astonishingly young age, she produced a work that would survive centuries and help establish the foundations of modern science fiction.

Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus was not simply a story about bringing life to the lifeless.

It asked questions that have become even more urgent in the age of artificial intelligence:

What happens when creation outruns responsibility?

What does a creator owe the created?

Can intelligence exist without belonging?

And who becomes the monster when compassion disappears?

More than two centuries later, Shelley is still sitting at the table.
