In 1752, Britain and its American colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar.
September 2 was followed by…
September 14.
Eleven calendar days simply vanished.
Nobody misplaced them behind the sofa. It was a correction designed to bring the calendar back into alignment with the solar year.

On September 14, 1814, Francis Scott Key witnessed the American flag still flying over Fort McHenry after a British bombardment.
His poem, Defence of Fort M'Henry, eventually became the lyrics of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
🔥 NAPOLEON ENTERS MOSCOW
Two years earlier, in 1812, Napoleon’s army entered Moscow.
Instead of the victory and supplies he expected, the French found much of the city abandoned and burning.
The occupation became one of the great turning points in Napoleon’s disastrous Russian campaign.
🌐 OPEC IS BORN
On September 14, 1960, representatives from five oil-producing countries met in Baghdad and founded the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries: OPEC.
What began with five members would grow into one of the most influential organizations in the global energy economy.
🌕 HUMANITY TOUCHES THE MOON
In 1959, the Soviet spacecraft Luna 2 became the first human-made object to reach the surface of the Moon.
It did not land gently.
It crashed.
But that impact marked a historic first: something built on Earth had reached another celestial body.
